In the Spirit of Friendship

Friendship week demands the our fortnightly social to be in the spirit of friendship. Tr. Secretary Ajith Mathew and wife Sara (Reshmi) hosted their social at Residency Towers with the theme Friendship. With friendship bands accompanying the welcome drink and an HRD/Fellowship session, Circle of Fellowship, aligned to the theme, friendship was at a real high.

The meeting involved the discussion of plans for the year by all the conveners. And from the discussions it looks like we are going to have an eventful year ahead.

The Circle of involved everyone picking up two names out of a bowl and writing a good note about them. This was collected then read aloud randomly and anonymously.

We may not know who wrote them. However, most of the ladies writing about their peers tried their best to be politically correct. The men however had no such inhibitions. Of the whole lot here are a few highlighted opinions we could not but mention.

Friendship Day

TRT 66 is all about friendship and fellowship.

We don't really need a special day to celebrate.

The only thing we really need is the time to celebrate.

On August 2nd the Ladies Circle took time off to and organize a social for the circlers of 22 and their spouses at Hotel Horizon. Well attended, Lots of fun and some special memories.

Two MJs and a hundred MJ Fans.

One a Singing MJ. The other a Dancing one.

That was a highlight of the TRT 66 joint AGM 2009.

The singing MJ came, gave an interview to release his new album, "Songs of the Round Table" as part of the Sergeant's Time. His singing was accompanied by clips of the videos of his songs.

A Great Start

A great start to a new Tabling Year. That's the most apt summary of the TRT 66 and TBRT 126 joint AGM 2009. The social afterwards was well attended and Remembering Michael Jackson led to a 'Thriller Night'.

TRT 66 announces Office bearers for year 2007 – 2008

A new team takes over the management of the affairs of the table, with Tr. Venugopal assuming office os the Chairman of TRT66 for the year 2007 – 2008. Tr. Sundheep Elias and Tr. Ajith Mathew were elected Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

Stags Tour Overseas

Seven tablers (Venu, Suhas, Sudhir, Sundheep, Murali, Sethu & Ajith) departed on 25th January to Bangkok for the stag's social. The first day was in Pattaya where we were staying near the beach. Pattaya is like kovalam, though on a bigger scale. The main attraction is the beach and a street known as walking street. It was mainly a bar hopping session till very late in the night. The next day some went for para gliding and on the water scooter and afterwards departed to Bangkok.

In Bangkok , Suhas used his considerable local contacts to find out the happening places (discotheques & night clubs). The next two nights were spend in the discotheques until 4 am. During the day time, it was mainly shopping for all since we could not go home without purchasing all the items mentioned by our wives. Murali has arranged 10 kg excess baggage for us and it came in handy. As for the place, Bangkok is very crowded city but accommodation is cheap and it has a wide range of food & entertainment to offer. We had to learn some of their language since their understanding of English is poor.

We returned back on 29th and arrived 30th morning at Trivandrum. Special thanks to Sq.leg Joey for going out of his way to help us with the airline arrangements. All of us had a great time and it was a welcome break.

A new ever-green couple

Tr. Nabeel got inducted into the Round Table movement on . The induction was done by Chairman Tr. Joseph Isaac. Also seen in the picture are the secretary Tr. Sudhir and Nabeel’s proposer Tr. Manoj Chacko.

Nabeel is currently the youngest Tabler in our fold. A Chemical Engineer, Nabeel is currently working with US Technology resources as a senior software engineer. He currently holds the title of ‘Mr. Technopark’.

A native of Cherupulasseri in Palakkad, Nabeel did his schooling in the Indian School in Kuwait. His hobbies include soccer, music, dancing and public speaking. Nabeel has performed music and dance for various television programs and is also the charter vice president of the Trivandrum Toastmasters club.

Nabeel is married to Shanima and the couple today stand as a threat to our evergreen dancing couple – Suhas and Gayathri. Standby for competition results…

Dr. Sundheep Joins the movement

Dr. Sundheep V. Elias was conferred the alternate title of ‘Tr.’ on 27th October 2006. This was in the presence of the Area Chairman, Tr. Abiruben. Also seen in the picture is Tr. Manoj Kumar - his proposer.

Tr. Sundheep is a dental surgeon by profession and he runs an independent clinic by name ‘Smile styles dental clinic and implant centre’. Married to Nisha, along with the vibrant 2 year old daughter Ishita, they have groomed in to be a total tabling family – often leaving (Sundheep - crawling) from table meetings after the host. The first Table Social hosted by them - the recent Christmas social was a blast with music, dance, Santa and the best of ambience. The attention to detail that they went through and the elaborate arrangements were remarkable.

Sundheep jumped into tabling even before being a full fledged tabler. As a prospective, he spearheaded the initiative of a joint dental camp along with Leela Kempinski (represented by our own Tr. Manoj Kumar). In him, TRT66 recognises the right blend that we long for in members of our fold.

Dental Camp for school children

All are invited for the project – Free Dental Camp for the benefit of School children in the Vizhinjam Panchayath Area. The project is being executed jointly by The Trivandrum Round Table No.66 and The Leela Kempenski, Kovalam.

The project will be inaugurated by the District Collector, and executed with the whole hearted support o f the entire Tabling/Circling community at Trivandrum.

Movie Social

The tabling family got together for dinner at Arya Nivas, followed by a movie social. The movie - Classmates, depicts the upheavals in the campus affecting the lives of lead players and playing havoc with their destinies. A refreshingly different film, it proves that with the back-up of a well-written script and good direction, the younger generation stars too can work miracles.

The social was attended by Anand, Sreekumar, Manoj Chacko, Manoj Kumar and Eldo (with thier family), and two stags namely Venu and Ajith.The experience was enjoyable and we expect to have another movie social soon.

TExT 2006

The Table Executive Training program (TExT) was conducted at Courtallam on the 10th and 11th of June 2006. As has been the case with every past instance of TExT, this year also the Chairman and Secretary of TRT66 attended the TExT program. While reserving their comments on one of the facilitators, both Eldo and Sudhir opined that the program was useful, fun, and a great opportunity to get to know their counterparts in other tables. At TRT66, we look forward to an enlightened head table.

Joint AGM

TRT66 & TBRT126 had their joint AGM on the 29th o July 2006, at Hotel Residency Towers. The chief guest was Area Chairman Tr. Venu, and the Guests of honour included Tr. Deepu Paul-TT Editor & Tr. Abi - AVC.

Tr. Joseph Isaac and Tr. Vinod Koshy took over the office of Chairman of TRT66 & TBRT126. The larger chunk of the responsibility for the AGM was taken up by TBRT126 and beautifully executed. The total settlement of accounts three days after the AGM, was the icing on the cake -- congrats to Tr. Kuriakose for the diligent work.

At TRT66, we look forward to yet another year of vibrant fellowship and meaningful service.

Computer for Kalloor School

In response to a request from Kalloor school, Trivandrum, the Table donated a computer for the use of the students of the school. The required funds for this project (Rs. 16,900/-) was given to the table by Mr. Abdul Latheef, an NRI and alumni of the school.

The computer was installed at the school on 12th December, 2005.

RTI Week 2005

The extended RTI Week celebrations of TRT66 were held from the 11th to the 20th of November 2005. A total sum of Rs. 72,466/- was spent for the charity activities. The details of the entire activities during these days are given below.

Day-1. 11/11/2005
Table Meeting and official visit of RTI President Tr. Ravi Khanna, in the presence of Area Chairman Tr. Venugopal, guests from TBRT126, Manoj Baker Fenn of KRTT121 and Tr. Srini Iyer of RTBI. The afternoon meeting was held at Hotel Horizon

Day-2. 12/11/2005
We had established a the computer facility in Jayamatha boys’ home, Nalamchira, last year. In addition to the three computer given then, we donated one more computer today. The formal handing over was done at their venue where the annual sports day for all the orphanages was being hosted

Day-3. 13/11/2005
Donated Donated 50 bed sheets, 15 of ½ kg tins of Lactogen-1 and 2. of emergency lights to the Missionaries of charity, Kunnukuzhi, Trivandrum. Trivandrum Ladies circle donated some provisions, note books and baby powder.

Day-4. 13/11/2005
a) Kaloor School - Donated 40 plastic chairs and toys for pre-primary children at the Kaloor School.

b) Veiloor School - From there, we proceeded to Veiloor school where in addition to the class rooms, science laboratory, library and park created by us earlier, the new gate we setup was inaugurated. The inauguration was done by the Area Publicity convenor, Tr. Manoj Chacko.

Day-5. 13/11/2005
Visited Marion Play Home and spent time with the staff and children. Along with TLC22, we donated food packets there.

Day-6. 13/11/2005
Donated over 250 new books to the Chalai school library, which we setup last year. Also donated some garden schools to maintain the garden, which was also set up by the Table earlier.

Day-7. 13/11/2005
Visited Pettah Govt. G.H.S. to take stock of the condition of the toilet block constructed by us three years back and to study if any deserving requirements currently exist.

The tablers, circlers and twinklers got together later for a night movie social – A Mammooty super hit film - “Rajamanikkam”

The Tablers, Circlers and twinklers got together for a dinner social at hotel Arya Nivas.

A full day HRD program conducted at RM ESI, Technopark, Trivandrum. This soft skills training program was conducted for the project managers at RM ESI.

Distributed ITC notebooks worth Rs 16000/- to 700 children of Kalloor school on 29th August..
Sanctioned Rs 9,000/- through Project Helping Hands for four persons.

RULES & EXTENSION
The following rules proposed & circulated earlier by Tr. Satish Prabhu were approved by the Table, for inclusion in the Table Bye-Laws –

Members are not to maintain a debit balance in excess of Rs. 1,000/-
A member, who fails to pay his annual dues by 30th September of a particular year, will be issued a reminder letter. In the event that the payment is not realized by 15th October of that year, he is disqualified from the membership of the table.
An additional Sergeant fine of Rs. 100 will be levied on tablers not wearing a table pin at the meeting
Smoking is banned during meetings happening indoors

PUBLICITY

Tr Manoj sponsored a hoarding at Vellayambalam, bringing enormous publicity for the Movement. This was inaugurated by Area Chairman Tr.Venugopal on 2nd October 2005.

IRO

Trivandrum RT 66 had a very active start to the tabling year with the Round Table World 66 meet which was a 5-day gala event hosting 52 heads from seven countries. Of these, 22 foreign delegates attended the pre tour organized by TRT66, which was for the duration of a week.

TABLE ADMINISTRATION

On the administration of the affairs of the table have been progressing well and all communications with the association have been prompt. The average attendance for the year till date is 83 % and meetings have been held as per schedule.

TRT66 Hoarding

Through the initiative of the Area Publicity convenor, our table put up a hoarding in the heart of the city, at Vellayamballam junction. The hoarding which was inaugurated by the Area Chairman Tr. Venugopal on the 2nd of October 2005, will go a long way in giving publicity to Round Table and the cause of ‘Freedom Through Education’.

Seeing this, several other tables in the Area have also expressed interest in putting up hoardings in their cities, and requested for our design to be passed on to them.

Three RTI welcome boards are also being put up at the entry points to the city. These are being sponsored by M/s.Baby Shop belonging to Tr. Aiyappan.

Best Area Floor Tabler

On the 30th of August 2005, our past Chairman and chief guest at the AGM, Sq. Leg. Thomas Kurien presented Eldo with the Best Tabler award (picture on the left).

Going furhter, at the Area AGM on the 10th and 11th of September, our table won several awards, but the one that thrilled most of us, was the very deserving award of the Best Area floor tabler, which went to Eldo. His contributions to the movement have been exemplary!!

Last evening a few of us got together at Arya Nivas to celebrate this honour bestowed on Eldo.

Eldo, Neena, Sudhir, Veena, Manoj Swapna, Roy, Preetha, Viju, Supriya, Sree, Sonia and Sethu, besides the lots of twinklers were there creating a ruckus at the otherwise quiet eating joint.

We look forward to more such tall order achievements from our stalwart - Eldo.

AGMs at Alleppy at Kottayam

The joint AGM of Quilon RT85 and Alleppy RT103 was held on 14th August 2005
at Alleppy. This was attended by Vijay, Sudhir and Ajith.

The joint AGM of the two tables of Kottayam - 79 and 121, was held on 28th
August 2005, at Kottayam. This was attended by Manoj, Viju, Eldo and Neena.

Area AGM at Munnar

The Area AGM at Munnar which was held on the 10th and 11th of Sepember 2005, witnessed record participation, despite the not so conducive weather.

Trivandrum Round Table 66 was represented at the AGM by Eldo, Sethu, Manoj and Anand. Neena, Elizabeth and Beena were present too, to cheer the table as we won quite a few awards.

Becky's Birthday Bash

Many of the Tabler, Circlers and Twinklers got together to celebrate
Becky's birthday on the 8th of September. The party was organised at the
new joint - Pizza Corner and surely this was their first exposure to a
crowd of our kind. Having taken up the entire place by late evening, we had
the staff sing and dance to the birthday tune, while the Pizzas kept
rolling by.

Sethu, Venu, Viju, Sudhir, Eldo, Mahesh, Joey, Ajith, Sangeetha, Veena,
Revathi, Neena, Queenie and of course, Deepa and the children were present.

The twinklers had a ball out there, freaking on the complimentary ice creams
and the large balloons that were given to them.

Contribution to Tsunami

Contribution to Tsunami

Trivandrum Round Table 66 had collected approximately 5.5 Lakhs from the World 66 Tablers (Netherlands, England and Belgium). In addition to some monies collected otherwise, the total funds raised for Tsunami was nearly 5.8 Lakhs.

TRT66 executed some immediate relief works in Nagercoil, and the balance of Rs. 4.72 Lakhs was handed over to the RTI President Tr. Ravi Khanna on the 28th of July, 2005. These funds will be used towards rebuilding schools affected by Tsunami.

TRT66 was also actively involved in the initial discussions with HSBC, which eventually led to a realization of over Rs. 90 lakhs to the RTI Trust account.

Kollampics 2005

Kollampics 2005 -- The Olympics between Trivandrum RT66, Kottayam RT79 and Quilon RT85 was hosted by TRT66 on the 29th of May 2005 at the Trivandrum Golf Club. It has been our tradition in 66, that the newest Tabler organises the Kollampics and there is no doubt Ajith Mathew did a very fine job

The visiting participants reached the previous night to attend the social hosted by Ajith and Murali. The evening was fun filled with games (Gayathri taking the lead) and the folks were slowly crawling out by about 2AM.

Predictably, the games the next day started late (towards noon) and the skills and capabilities of the 'sportspersons' were well challenged through the novel games organised and conducted by Nilima. These included the 'Human Tic-Tac-Toe', Obstacle race and Throw ball. In true Olympian style, the game of 'Human Tic Tac Toe' had a casualty in Hema who had a small ligament rupture and will now need to stay of the track for about 3 weeks.

The overall championship was claimed by KRT79. Narayan of RT85 claiming the Best Kollampian title and Mahima of LC48 won the Kollampini title. Outside of the RT66 tablers, the participants included Kunju, Simon & Mahima, Reji & Rani, Nebu, Varkey, Benji, Manoj, Rajiv, Balu, Prakash, Narayan, Kiran, Tony and Manju.

As usual, Kollampics was characterised by the warmth of friendship with all having a great time.

Let's look forward to Kollampics 2006 at Kollam.

Men's Cookout 2005

If the ladies are better at doing community service projects than we are, we did establish a point that there are certainly some things that we are better at. To prove the point, there was mouth watering barbeque chicken, hot and crisp pakkavadas, vegetable kurma (so what if it was completed after most left), Pulav, chicken fry, Ginger Chicken and of course the very exotic concoction of alcohol and fruits served out of buckets.

The cook out at Tr. Nagarajan Udupa's house on the 13th of February had almost complete participation from the Tablers, Circlers and Twinklers, beside the Honorary Tablers and Square Legs.
